TWO WEST Highland takeaways are officially among the best in the country after picking up prizes at the Scottish Curry Awards.
Oban’s Kebabish won Best Takeaway in the North West region, beating Spicy Spot in Inverness, while Fort William’s Spice Tandoori shook off competition from three others to win Best Restaurant in the same region.
Kebabish owner Shaukat Chaudhry, who has run the business since 2007, is enjoying a successful first venture in catering, having picked up the same award in 2012. Speaking to The Oban Times, he said: “It is a very difficult award to win. There are secret shoppers who come in to taste the food and judge it for quality”. The awards ceremony was held at the Thistle Hotel, Glasgow, on Monday. Mr Chaudhry added: “To stand up in front of 600 people at the event felt amazing. I would like to thank all my customers for their support and nomination. We are very happy to represent Oban. I would like to thank my team, who also deserve the credit”.
Also nominated in the North West Restaurant category was Taste of India from Kyleakin on Skye.
